In November 2023, a collision between a truck and a passenger car occurred in Kuusalu Municipality. The car was struck by the unsecured outrigger leg of the truck's lifting equipment. The 38-year-old male driver and his eight-year-old daughter, who was sitting behind him, were killed. Two other daughters—aged 12 and nine—were also in the car; they managed to get out on their own. The truck was driven by Raul Vatsel, a man in his sixties, who was uninjured.
Immediately after the accident, one of the daughters who had escaped called the emergency services. "Our car is completely wrecked. My dad and my little sister might be dead," she said in a frightened voice. The crying of the other sister could be heard in the background. The child described how neither her father nor her little sister was moving, and both were covered in blood.
At the same time, a passing car stopped, and a man stepped out. He, too, dialed 112 and provided directions to the scene. "It looks really bad, I think..." he remarked regarding the accident.
